User Guide – Key Generation (Key-Gen) – Veralinx.art
Welcome to the Key-Gen section of Veralinx.art, where users can generate their private and public keys for digitally signing Artwork Cards and TAGs.
Important:
Only authorized users can generate keys.
The private key and secret text must be stored securely and confidentially; they should never be shared.
The public key is stored on the server and is used to verify digital signatures for authenticity.
1. Accessing the Key-Gen Page
Users who have been enabled by Veralinx can access the Key-Gen page from their Account section.
If your Key-Gen button is disabled, you may not be authorized to generate keys. Contact Veralinx support if you believe this is an error.
2. Generating Keys – Step by Step
Step 1: Verify Your Account Information
When you access the Key-Gen page, the system will automatically fill in the “Name to Save” field with your account details.
Example: John_Doe_Artist
This ensures that the keys are correctly associated with your profile.
Step 2: Enter a Secret Text for Signing
You must enter a Secret Text in the “Secret text for TAG signature” field.
Requirements for the Secret Text:
Must be between 128 and 256 characters
Can contain letters, numbers, and special characters
Must be unique and difficult to guess
Do not share or disclose this text
The secret text is essential for signing TAGs and Artwork Cards. Keep it secure!
Step 3: Generate the Keys
Once you have entered a valid Secret Text, the “Generate Keys & TAG Signer” button will become active.
Click the button to generate:
Private Key (Used to sign TAGs and Artwork Cards)
Public Key (Stored on the server for verification)
Signed TAG Data (To validate digital signatures)
3. Saving and Downloading the Keys
Once the process is complete, the system will provide three files for download:
Private Key File (yourname_private.pem
)
Secret Text File (yourname_private_text.txt
)
Public Key File (yourname_public.pem
)
Important:
Download and store these files securely on your device or external storage.
The private key and secret text CANNOT be recovered if lost.
Veralinx does not store the private key for security reasons.
4. What Happens Next?
After generating your keys:
The public key is automatically saved to the Veralinx server.
The system verifies that you have successfully generated your keys.
You can now use your private key to sign Artwork Cards and TAGs in the Card Editor section.
Your authentication process is now secured with Veralinx’s digital identity system!
