Key Generation Guide (Key-Gen) – Veralinx.art

Welcome to the Key-Gen section of Veralinx.art, where authorized users can generate the private key and public key used within the Veralinx system for the digital signing of Artwork Cards and for the association and validation controls connected to NFC Tags.

Important

Only authorized users can generate keys.

The private key and the secret text must be stored securely and must not be disclosed.

The public key is stored on the server and is used by the system to verify the validity of digital signatures and the controls associated with the registered digital identity.

Accessing the Key-Gen Page

Authorized users can access the Key-Gen page through the Account section.

If the Key-Gen button is disabled, it means the user is not authorized to generate keys. In case of problems, please contact Veralinx support.

Key Generation Procedure – Steps

Step 1: User Information Check

When accessing the Key-Gen page, the system will automatically populate the “Name to save” field with the registered user information.
Example: Mario_Rossi_Artist

This ensures that the keys are correctly associated with the user’s profile.

Step 2: Entering the Secret Text

You must enter a Secret Text in the “Secret text for TAG signature” field.

Secret Text Requirements

  • It must contain between 128 and 256 characters

  • It may include letters, numbers, and special characters

  • It must be unique and unpredictable

  • It must not be shared or disclosed

The secret text is used by the system as a confidential control element for the validation processes connected to Tags and to the registration of the digital identity.
Store it securely.

Step 3: Key Generation

After entering a valid Secret Text, the “Generate Keys & TAG Signer” button will become active.

By clicking the button, the following will be generated:

  • Private Key
    used for the digital signing operations provided within the Veralinx system

  • Public Key
    stored on the server for the verification of digital signatures and associated controls

  • TAG control string
    used by the Veralinx system as an additional element in the association and validation processes of NFC Tags

Saving and Downloading the Keys

Once generation is completed, the system will provide three files for download:

  • Private Key file (yourname_private.pem)

  • Secret Text file (yourname_private_text.txt)

  • Public Key file (yourname_public.pem)

Important

Download and store these files in a secure place, such as a protected archive or a dedicated external storage device.

If you lose the private key or the secret text, they cannot be recovered.

For security reasons, Veralinx does not store the private key.

What Happens After Generation?

After the keys have been generated:

  • the public key is automatically stored on the Veralinx server;

  • the system checks that the user has correctly completed the generation process;

  • the user can use the private key for the operations enabled by the platform;

  • the system also holds the elements required for the association and validation controls related to NFC Tags.

In the case of Tags, security does not rely on a simple static value, but on the interaction between the physical Tag, server-side controls, and the authentication mechanisms provided by the Veralinx system.

Troubleshooting

Why is the “Generate Keys” button disabled?
Check that you have entered a Secret Text that meets the required criteria.

What happens if I lose the private key or the secret text?
They cannot be recovered. You will need to contact Veralinx support to evaluate a reset of the authorization process.

Can I generate a new key in the future?
Once generated, keys cannot be freely regenerated unless Veralinx authorizes a reset.
