Opera-ID is designed as a technological support tool for artwork identification and verification.

Opera-ID is a web application developed by Veralinx to recognize and verify works of art directly from your smartphone camera.
Thanks to its image recognition algorithms, Opera-ID:
• Exclusively identifies artworks already registered on Veralinx that have undergone the enrollment process on the platform.
• Works with two-dimensional artworks (paintings, photos, graphics, prints), but is currently unable to identify three-dimensional works such as sculptures.

Why it only works on smartphones

Opera-ID relies on camera sensors and geolocation:
• As a mobile application, it is not designed for use on desktop or laptop computers.
• If you try to use it on a computer, it will not function.

How to install Opera-ID on a smartphone
  1. Open your mobile browser (e.g., Chrome on Android, Safari on iOS).

  2. Access the app here

  3. Add the app to your Home Screen:

    • Android (Chrome): from the main menu, select “Add to Home screen.”

    • iOS (Safari): tap the “Share” icon (square with an upward arrow) and choose “Add to Home Screen.”

Usage
  1. Launch Opera-ID from the icon on your Home Screen. (Each step only requires one button press)

  2. Authorize geolocation (this occurs only the first time).

  3. Log in with your Veralinx credentials.

  4. The app performs geolocation; wait a few seconds.

  5. The central button activates the camera:

    • Frame the artwork frontally, in good lighting conditions

    • Take the photo

    • Press the button to send the image to the server

    • Wait for matching and image storage on the server

  6. View the results: if the artwork is recognized with a matching index, you can access its Artwork Card by tapping “View Card,” and view the transaction by tapping “blockchain.”

Opera-ID is a technological tool designed to support the identification and verification process of artworks. It does not replace visual inspection or the expertise of an art professional, but provides an advanced digital support based on image recognition.

Limitations

Opera-ID is designed for the recognition of two-dimensional artworks, such as paintings, photographs, and graphic works.
It does not currently support sculptures or three-dimensional installations.

The system can identify only artworks previously registered on the Veralinx platform.

Opera-ID analyzes and compares the visual characteristics of an image with those stored in the system. For this reason, it cannot determine the physical medium of the artwork, for example distinguishing between an original painting and a printed reproduction of the same image.
This type of evaluation remains part of the visual analysis performed by the user or art expert conducting the verification.

Possible causes of failed identification

In some cases, identification may not be successful. The most common reasons include:

  • registered images with insufficient quality or lacking useful visual details;

  • graphical characteristics of the artwork that are too uniform or not distinctive enough for the recognition algorithms;

  • suboptimal conditions when capturing the image with the camera (poor lighting, reflections, partial framing, or blurred image).

For best results, it is recommended to photograph the artwork in good lighting, ensuring the work is fully framed and the camera image is stable and in focus.
