Opera-ID (patent pending) is a web application developed by Veralinx to recognize and verify works of art directly from your smartphone camera.
Thanks to its image recognition algorithms, Opera-ID:
• Exclusively identifies artworks already registered on Veralinx that have undergone the enrollment process on the platform.
• Works with two-dimensional artworks (paintings, photos, graphics, prints), but is currently unable to identify three-dimensional works such as sculptures.
Why it only works on smartphones
Opera-ID relies on camera sensors and geolocation:
• As a mobile application, it is not designed for use on desktop or laptop computers.
• If you try to use it on a computer, it will not function.
How to install Opera-ID on a smartphone
-
Open your mobile browser (e.g., Chrome on Android, Safari on iOS).
-
Access the app here.
-
Add the app to your Home Screen:
-
Android (Chrome): from the main menu, select “Add to Home screen.”
-
iOS (Safari): tap the “Share” icon (square with an upward arrow) and choose “Add to Home Screen.”
-
Usage
-
Launch Opera-ID from the icon on your Home Screen. (Each step only requires one button press)
-
Authorize geolocation (this occurs only the first time).
-
Log in with your Veralinx credentials.
-
The app performs geolocation; wait a few seconds.
-
The central button activates the camera:
-
Frame the artwork frontally, in good lighting conditions
-
Take the photo
-
Press the button to send the image to the server
-
Wait for matching and image storage on the server
-
-
View the results: if the artwork is recognized with a matching index, you can access its Artwork Card by tapping “View Card,” and view the transaction by tapping “blockchain.”
Limitations
Opera-ID is currently designed for the recognition of two-dimensional artworks (paintings, photographs, prints).
It does not yet support sculptures or three-dimensional installations.
Identification is only possible for artworks that have been previously registered on Veralinx.
Possible causes of failed identification
In some cases, recognition may not succeed. This can be due to:
-
registered images of insufficient quality or lacking in detail;
-
graphical features of the artwork (lines too uniform or not distinctive enough for Opera-ID algorithms);
-
suboptimal conditions when taking the photo (poor lighting, partial framing, reflections, blurriness).
For best results, we recommend photographing the artwork in good lighting, framing it entirely, and ensuring the image is sharp and stable.
